You have this listed as your location. Is this something out of your sci-fi novel, or something you read somewhere and liked? _________________ "It is well that war is so terrible - we should grow too fond of it." -- Robert E. Lee

Indeed, Jeremy, will you clear this up? _________________ <Paolo|Work> anything that has to do with Java is by definition stupid

Click this link if you want a spoiler clue.
As an amusing aside, if you google for "bandley 6" JR is the third of three results. _________________ "Our products just aren't engineered for security."

When Steve Jobs was stripped of all operational responsibilities at Apple in 1985, he was moved to a building called "Bandley 6" (the first Apple building at their One Infinite Loop residence in Cupertino was called Bandley 1, because the street used to be called Bandley Drive. All fascinating Apple trivia, which I'm sure I've gotten wrong)
Anyway, Bandley 6 was a building with only one office. You see, Steve couldn't be fired as such. He was still the largest shareholder in the company. So they put him in this building with only one office, and said basically: "Here are your responsibilities: None. Here are the people you are supervising: None. Here are the people assigned to be your assistants: None." His official title was "Global Thinker". What do Global Thinkers do? They think, I guess. In a small building with one office, and no access to even regular company reports.
So Steve put up with this for about a month and then decided to start his own company, got all excited, and resigned, taking a bunch of Apple employees with him to start NeXT. Apple promptly sued him for doing so, but the possibility of bad PR of such a lawsuit convinced them to drop the suit.
I guess I like to think of myself as a "Global Thinker" living in "Bandley 6". While it drove Steve nuts, it is very close to my dream job: Lots of money, no work and no responsibility.
So that's the story.
EDIT: There's one other thing I remember now-- when I started OSY, it coincided with my self-imposed break from the BF. I guess I also felt kind of like someone banished from the realm (aka Ars) even if it was self-banishment. So it was kind of an in-in-joke in that respect, so much so that I almost forgot about it by now. _________________ "Those afraid of the universe as it really is, those who pretend to nonexistent knowledge and envision a Cosmos centered on human beings will prefer the fleeting comforts of superstition. I knew that name sounded familiar.
I read some old Apple book and it had a bit of content concerning the Apple campus and the different buildings. I found it interesting for some reason. _________________ I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.
